A transgender woman will join representatives from the Sikh and Baha'i communities as new advisers to President Obama on faith-based issues.

The White House announced the additions to the President's third and final advisory council on faith-based and neighbourhood partnerships last week.

National LGBT Task Force Barbara Satin was involved in the UCC's decision to fully include LGBT people as members and ministers in 2003

Barbara Satin is the assistant faith work director for the National LGBTQ Task Force and a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC). She was the first openly transgender member of the UCC's executive council and has served on the board of a number of other LGBT community groups.

Of her appointment, Satin said: "Given the current political climate, I believe it's important that a voice of faith representing the transgender and gender non-conforming community — as well as a person of my years, nearly 82 — be present and heard in these vital conversations."

The other appointments included Naseem Kourosh, human rights officer at the US Baha'i office of public affairs and Manjit Singh, co-founder and chairman of the Sikh American Legal Defence and Education Fund.

Along with a number of other appointments, Obama said Satin, Kourosh and Singh were "fine public servants" and would bring "depth of experience and tremendous dedication" to their roles.

"I look forward to working with them," he said.

The President's advisory council is charged with making policy recommendations to the administration as well as suggesting improvements and best practices for services that relate to faith-based groups. The council currently has fifteen members, most of whom are Christian.

  1. Having read the Aqdas “upside down” Barack has found more things in his repertoire than are contained in our philosophy. Last year he appointed the “very gay” Ted Osius as US. Ambassador to Vietnam, who with his “man- wife” Clayton Bond (they have already even adopted a child) are now the “first US couple” in Vietnam and are both actively pushing for gay rights in that country.

I had thought my namesake Jimmy Carter was the worst President it has been our misfortune to have had, but as mark Twain said “things always get worse” and Barack has proved Mark “spot on”. So more power to the “Eunuchs”. I hope the Sikh and the Baha’i did not also have to qualify as” gay”!! The UHJ should check on it.

  3. A Baha'i religious adviser. Obama should ask her advice on how to treat arsonists based on the Baha'i teachings (burning to death on the stake) or thieves: marking the like cattle. I think Barack don't no crap about what the Baha'i cult teaches.

    1. Barack wouldn't care. After all Barack has been covertly supporting takfiri head choppers throughout the Mid East and North Africa.

  4. An advisory board on religion which has members from beliefs that are from 0.1% of the world population, permanent seats for multiple Jews and Christians, but doesn't have a single permanent seat for the worlds second largest religion (Islam which consists of 22% of world population) shouts 'politics'. Obama could heave easily retained at least one permanent Muslim member but no he had to replace them with some absolute minority religious groups that hardly anyone adheres to.
